GSHC: History, Iconic Players, and Partnership with PASINO.ch

News| 07/10/2026

The GSHC, or Genève-Servette Hockey Club, holds a special place in the Swiss hockey landscape. With over a century of history, the Geneva-based club has experienced periods of glory, more challenging seasons, iconic players, and, above all, a remarkable rise to prominence in recent years.

From its first Swiss championship title in 2023 to its European crown in 2024, coupled with an identity deeply rooted in the Geneva region, the GSHC is now one of the most popular clubs in Swiss hockey.

For PASINO.ch, this history and passion also represent a wonderful opportunity to further its commitment to the sport and its fans. After several seasons of collaboration, PASINO.ch and the GSHC are continuing their partnership for the 2026–2027 season.

The GSHC: A Historic Swiss Hockey Club

The history of the Genève-Servette Hockey Club officially began in 1905 with the introduction of ice hockey at Servette FC. At that time, the way hockey was played in Geneva was still very different from what we know today: games were often played on frozen ponds when they were sufficiently frozen.

Geneva’s hockey scene gradually took shape over the decades. In 1951, the advent of artificial ice rinks helped the sport develop further. A few years later, in 1959, Servette HC won the Swiss Cup—its first major title, which left a lasting mark on the history of Geneva hockey.

In 1963, Servette HC and Genève HC merged to form Genève-Servette HC. That same year, the new team won the LNB championship and earned promotion to the top tier of Swiss hockey.

The club then experienced several notable periods. In particular, it finished as Swiss runner-up on multiple occasions and won a second Swiss Cup in 1972. More recently, the Eagles also won two Spengler Cups, in 2013 and 2014.

But it wasn’t until 2023 that GSHC reached the pinnacle of the national championship.

2023: The First Swiss Championship Title

The 2022–2023 season will forever be remembered as one of the most significant in GSHC’s history.

With a particularly ambitious roster featuring players such as Henrik Tömmernes, Teemu Hartikainen, Valtteri Filppula, Sami Vatanen, Daniel Winnik, Tanner Richard, and Noah Rod, Genève-Servette had an exceptional season.

For the first time in its history, the club also finished at the top of the regular season standings.
The playoffs would then confirm Geneva’s ambitions. After eliminating Lugano in the quarterfinals and then Zug in the semifinals, the Eagles faced Biel in the final. It took until Game 7 to determine the champion.

In front of 7'135 spectators at Les Vernets and thousands of fans gathered in the fan zone, the GSHC finally clinched its first Swiss championship title after 118 years of history.
A historic moment for the club, but also for the entire Geneva region.

A European title the very next season

The GSHC didn’t stop there.
Thanks to its national title, Genève-Servette qualified for the Champions Hockey League for the 2023–2024 season. The Eagles would then write a new chapter in their history.

After a successful European campaign, they reached the competition’s final and faced the Swedish team Skellefteå AIK.
GSHC won 3–2 at Les Vernets and thus became European champions in 2024. The club became the first Swiss team to win the Champions Hockey League since the competition was established in its current form in 2014.

In just ten months, Genève-Servette thus won the two most prestigious titles in its history: the Swiss championship and the Champions Hockey League.

Players Who Have Shaped GSHC’s History

Over the years, many players have helped shape the club’s identity.
Among the legendary figures is Goran Bezina. Arriving in Geneva in 2004, the defenseman quickly became an indispensable part of the club. As captain for several seasons, he wore the maroon jersey for 15 seasons and helped shape GSHC’s modern identity. His number 57 was retired in 2022.

Other big names have also left their mark on Geneva fans. Henrik Tömmernes, a Swedish defenseman who joined the team in 2017, played a major role in winning the 2023 title. With 308 games and 249 points while playing for the Eagles, he is one of the most memorable foreign players in the club’s recent history.

Another notable player is Tanner Richard, who has played for GSHC since 2017. A Swiss and European champion with Genève-Servette, the Canadian-Swiss forward has gradually established himself as a true icon of the club. During the 2023 national championship playoffs, he finished as Genève’s leading scorer with 14 points in 18 games.
This legacy is also evident in the jersey numbers retired by the club, which honor several generations of players who have left their mark on the Eagles.

How to follow the GSHC?

For hockey fans, following Genève-Servette has become a must. National League games provide regular opportunities to see the Eagles on the ice at Les Vernets, their historic home arena.

Fans can check the GSHC schedule to find out about upcoming games, opponents, and home game dates.

Fan communities also play an important role in discussing results, player performances, and club news. The GSHC Forum is one of the places where fans can discuss club life and share their views.
And for those who wish to attend the games, you can go directly to the GSHC online ticket office, especially for the season’s most anticipated matches.

PASINO.ch and the GSHC: A Continuing Partnership

This passion for Geneva hockey is also shared by PASINO.ch.
Since 2023, PASINO.ch has been supporting the Genève-Servette Hockey Club through a sports partnership. This collaboration has spanned several seasons and will continue through the end of the 2025–2026 season.

The primary goal is to create special moments around GSHC games and to allow PASINO.ch customers to enjoy the matches in particularly comfortable conditions.

At every home game, four Gold seats are offered to customers invited by PASINO.ch. It’s a way to experience the atmosphere at Les Vernets, follow the Eagles up close, and enjoy a unique Swiss hockey experience.

Feedback received after several games shows that the experience is particularly well-received. Guests have particularly highlighted the quality of the hospitality, the atmosphere in the arena, the comfort of the seats, and, of course, the joy of seeing the GSHC prevail on the ice.

Certain games have left a lasting impression, notably the matches against Fribourg-Gottéron, Zug, Lausanne, and Ambri-Piotta during the 2024–2025 season.
Beyond the game’s outcome, these invitations above all help create lasting memories of the game.

PASINO.ch renews its partnership with the GSHC for 2026–2027

The partnership between PASINO.ch and Genève-Servette will therefore not end with the conclusion of the 2025–2026 season.
The partnership has been renewed for the 2026–2027 season.

For this new season, the concept remains simple: a Gold-level seat is offered at every home game to guests invited by PASINO.ch.
This renewed collaboration reflects PASINO.ch’s commitment to continuing to support a club that holds an important place in Swiss sports and in the hearts of many Geneva fans.
The partnership also brings two worlds together around a shared vision: offering a high-quality experience and creating memorable moments.

A New Season to Enjoy Alongside the Eagles

With its century-long history, national and European titles, and numerous iconic figures, the GSHC boasts a particularly rich sporting heritage today.
The club endured decades of waiting before winning its first Swiss championship title. It then followed that up with a historic European championship victory. These past few years have thus left a profound mark on the Eagles’ history and further solidified their place in Swiss hockey.

The 2026–2027 season now opens a new chapter.
For PASINO.ch, it will also be an opportunity to continue a partnership that began in 2023 and to keep introducing fans to the world of GSHC through experiences at Les Vernets.

One thing is certain: between the fans’ passion, the intensity of the league, and Genève-Servette’s unique history, the Eagles’ upcoming games promise many more memorable moments.
PASINO.ch’s commitment to Geneva sports extends beyond ice hockey. PASINO.ch also supports Servette FC, an iconic Geneva soccer club. Through these two partnerships, PASINO.ch aims to continue fostering local passion for sports and sharing memorable moments with fans.
